a flurry of emotions between an immortal being and a young girl. feelings held in without being given the chance to unfurl. regret and anguish, misunderstandings and distrust, curiosity but restraint for the future of your loved one. thinking for their other half's sake and banishing emotions, allowing logic to lead the way, such pure devotion. [break][break]
it doesn't matter, it won't bother me, the immortal says. sacrificing my happiness for your smile is all that i want, i confess.[break][break] hiding behind that liar's mask is what we all do, she believes. but the immortal doesn't understand. she's too young. and he's jaded. she's seen so little but he's seen too much and he hates it. she didn't have to choose him. [break][break]they could have gone their separate ways on that faithful day.[break][break]
but he felt a connection. a small spark. [break][break] towards a human child with a compassionate heart.

life is a game and i'm gonna play[break]always pressing forward, no time to save. |

Latios wasn't a fan of humans. He could understand their speech and communicate with them in kind but their antics were illogical. Amongst the masses, he was considered to be a pair with his sister as his other half, and the two thought to be practically inseperable. However no one seemed to notice when Latias would blend in amongst them wanting to be human for the amount of time that her transformation would allow. And no one knew that he couldn't do the same. He would remain in their home if he felt the need and wait for her, or go roaming in areas with low population densities for a peace of mind. [break][break]
It wasn't until a strange boy who claimed to hate Pokemon came forth. Latios wasn't a fan of the whelp but Latias was fond of him. His name was EMERALD. Latios was unimpressed and sought to distance himself as much as possible though keeping an eye on his sister when she became too invested. Her prodding and poking which was often endearing to Latios had become seemingly annoying and it brought him slight comfort along with amusement that the boy felt the same. Begrudgingly accepting her friendship, Latios saw a small glimmer of something inside of him and decided to give him a chance.[break][break]
However, humans would never change. Capturing Rayquaza, harming one another and Pokemon alike, and leaving Latios' heart in a whirlwind that wouldn't settle down.
[break][break]
They were evil and he should have taken Latias and left as quickly as possible. But a moment passed that he'd never forget. When EMERALD made friends and seemed genuinely happy in his own way. Latias was overjoyed as usual and Latios saw the glimmer again. A small spark trying to tell him that perhaps it wasn't all for naught.[break][break]
Time and time again, the tug of war within his chest raged as he watched Pokemon and humans alike battle against or for one another. The images of a machine which was harming two defenseless Pokemon bloomed before his eyes but was quickly snatched away as Latias closed hers. A human named RUBY asked for their aid in defeating Groudon and Kyogre.[break][break]
Latios wasn't sure. He wasn't strong enough. He couldn't. But Latias was by his side and all at once, he felt he could. [break][break]
Despite their best efforts, they were defeated and their vulnerability lorded over them by their enemies. The two fought back as they could and the world was saved from the meteor along with the rampaging legendaries. Ruby and Emerald were safe and amongst their friends no less. With their job completed, Latios took to the sky with Latias and returned to their home.
The things that they'd done with their intellect and companions at their side. How they abused the nature of their Pokemon or their fellow man, and the lack of respect they had for one another. Humans would never change. It disgusted him. But she loved them. She was curious about them and if she feared them, it didn't show where he could see. Staying on the Southern Island was good enough for him. She could go and see the world while he stayed here and waited.[break][break]
Waiting and watching, listening and hiding from humans that would intrude on their paradise from time to time.[break][break]
It wasn't until the day that she didn't come home. The day that he spent the sun's rise and set without her that he felt the urge to leave. It didn't matter where he had to go or how far he had to fly if he could see the light in her eyes and her smile.[break][break]
A scene played out before his eyes. The slain forms of those that he called his bretheren and humans alike, rampaging Pokemon accompanied by their trainers wreaking havoc upon the land. He couldn't shut his eyes or turn away and as her vision blurred with tears — he knew that she couldn't either.[break][break]
Latias came home and he held her as close as he could and for the first time, he wished that she'd never leave. That she'd never go. The outside world was dangerous and if something happened to her — he would lose his only friend and his home.
Time passed and old memories would stir. He remembered Emerald's face and Ruby's words, where were they now in this mad world. Latios found that he was speaking in riddles more often than not but tried to keep it from Latias' mind. She had more to worry about and he wasn't going to add any more to it. Not this time. For awhile, he had been pondering what to do and how to combat this new enemy. Ruby and Emerald could have been lost to time or death claiming them as it had those in his mind. If they were going to survive, they couldn't stay like this. [break][break]
Latias left in shorter intervals here and there. He told her of his plan, maybe she was excited or worried that it could go wrong. But he had no room for error and no matter how heavy the weight, he wouldn't let his sister fall.
Years passed and they left their home to scour the lands. Hiding and only appearing when they thought that they found a match. Latios wouldn't leave her side and refused to occupy a body that would not allow him to be with Latias. The thought of leaving his sister behind during this was absolutely perposterous. For a moment, he thought all hope was lost and then he heard a small voice call out to him.
[break][break]
"It's a Pokemon, Jae!"
Twin children. A boy and a girl. Although their appearances differed, their linked hands and similar smiles spoke volumes. He did it. He found vessels for them but he couldn't move. Or at least, he wouldn't. Some called him a legendary. Though the title must have been a humble one. He wasn't as grand as Arceus itself or Gritania, Darkrai and so forth but he was enough to make the little girl wary. She held her brother's hand tighter and stared up at him with a raised brow.
[break][break]
He could do it. Take the boy's body and tell Latias to take the girl's. But no matter how much he wanted to protect his sister, he wouldn't seperate the two from one another.
[break][break]
Their parents called for them and the girl gave one glance to him before turning her back and hurrying away. Latias appeared soon after saying that she found no one, but Latios wasn't in the mood to speak. How could he let their one chance get away from him so easily.
The girl's name was Ji, the elder of the two. She was strange to say the least. Talkative like Latias but some moments very quiet. Latios wasn't one to stay in the same place for long and if he did to allow the girl a chance to find him, Latias would be curious. But something about her reminded him. She was honest. Where he was not. She spoke from her heart where he didn't know how to. There were moments when the two didn't speak and just sat in silence until he felt Latias' presence or she had to go home.[break][break]
Unlike him and Latias, she and her brother weren't always together. He'd see the pair split off from one another to do their own activities. Wonder why it was that she'd allow her younger to be on his own. She told him that she trusts him and that she can't always be there to look after him. Even if she was right and her words held truth, her mind was quieter than usual.[break][break]
A rumor was spreading about legendaries taking the body of humans. Ji heard of it and she asked the question that Latios had been dreading.[break][break]
"What are you going to do?"
She was TEN years old when their hearts became one. He remembered falling through her mind and seeing memories circling around him. Hearing the soft thudding of her heartbeat and finally — nothing. Ji was still there. He could feel her and he could feel himself as well. Two hearts in one body. Instead of speaking to him or worrying about what would happen next, she turned to her brother after his merge with Latias and smiled half-heartedly.
[break][break]
"So, what are we going to do?"
The pair started their adventure after that day. The things that they'd seen, the places that they'd go, and the friends they made were all their own. Latios knew that Ji hadn't forgotten him even as she moved on from being a bright-eyed little girl to a silver-tongued young woman. They talked from time to time but he never felt the urge to fully possess her. It felt as though he was safe and at home. He could see Latias in her brother's smile and remembered his friends fondly as Ji gathered a team of her own.
Yet, there was one morning when Ji arose from her sleep with cold sweat and wide eyes. Latios made a mistake. He allowed one of his less desirable memories to slip and changed the girl's dream into a nightmare. She held onto her blankets and shook. The pair had joined the Pokemon Association but Ji always seemed to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. There were times where Latios wondered if her decision was the right one.[break][break]
She wanted to save them and show them that there was nothing to fear from the world around them.[break][break]
And he wondered if Min-Ji was convinced of that herself.
