What good is a life that cannot be remembered? Would that even be considered a life at all? Would that life have been one worth living?[break][break]
Before the beast known as Suicune came into existence, there had been another. A creature whose name and appearance has long since been forgotten to a burning tragedy, even to itself. Had it always been known as Suicune? Had it always looked as it was? It cannot even remember if he was a he, or if she was a she. Maybe it had always been neither, it cannot remember.[break][break]
The only truths it knows is that it has once lived and it has once died. But more importantly, that it was never alone in either life or in death. Raikou and Entei… Were they family? Or were they friends? It does not know and in all honesty? It does not care. No matter what, they were important and it knows that. It cares for them and it always will. Seeing them will always bring happiness and being with them will bring comfort. Because they are family. They are friends. And death could never take that from them.[break][break]
It remembers the first moments of its new life. The first aching breath that it took as air began to circulate through its lungs once more. How it coughed and wheezed until the ashes of the tower that it might have once called home left its reawakened body. How it had opened its eyes to not only see the destruction that the flames had wrought, but also the magnificent rainbow wings of its saviour flying high above a clear blue sky. How it stood up on shaky legs like a newborn deer and stared upwards in wonder, and even though it was no longer a child, it felt like one beneath its saviour’s presence. To it—to Suicune—it considers them Mother, for they were the one to give it life once more.[break][break]
And for that, when the man with the mask came and tried to take Mother away, it fought with every ounce of strength it could muster. Tooth and nail, icy winds howling at its command, it refused to give up. Even when it lost the fight and was trapped, it waited and planned, determined to save Mother. It knew that it needed to be stronger—that it needed someone stronger. And so, when the day came that the yellow-haired human freed it from its cage, it set off in search of a worthy companion.[break][break]
It scoured the lands, taking on anyone it deemed a possible candidate. But too many were weak and inferior in its eyes. Or they were filled with greed and lusted only for its power, and it considered such humans unworthy of the might that it held until finally, it found her. Two hers, actually. The first, a caring gym leader specializing in Water-type Pokémon, and the second, a persistent young girl who’s attempts to capture it were sufficiently annoying to say the least. And yet, only through the aid of the two alongside its beast siblings and their own companions, was it able to free Mother from the man with the mask before doing what it did best—roaming free.[break][break]
Had Suicune had its way, it would not have taken on a human vessel. It would have lived its life as free as it could be as itself and as no one else. But such a desire was nothing more than a far-off dream, a lie that it tried to tell itself it could have with each passing day. Even with the freedom to roam the world as it saw fit, it learned that it could never truly live free—at least not amongst others, and especially not amongst humans.[break][break]
Every experience felt the same. It thought it would be safe. It thought it would be free—that it could trust. But then a human would come, some with kindly gestures and false smiles, others with vicious determination. But in the end, it mattered not what they came with because they all wanted the same in the end—to claim it for its power and for their own glory. And as such, every encounter ended with a struggle, a tiresome confrontation, before it would flee and find itself with a growing distaste towards humanity.[break][break]
Humans were the problem and yet somehow, they were also the solution. It pained it to even consider the idea of taking on a host and it sought other means at first, but there were none that it could see. It grew tired of running, of fending off predators and spending its days in hiding, wanting nothing more than a peaceful life. And so, it watched humans from a distance, curiously studying their actions, searching for another companion—a different kind of companion. One that would allow it to be free.[break][break]
And eventually, it found her and it became her.
Mackenzie Wyght, a new name, a new face. It is a she now. It is not used to such a term, but that is what it has become—a she, a human. It walks upon two legs—no. That is not right. She walks upon two legs now. She laughs and she smiles and she hides among the other humans without them knowing. She indulges in the simplicities of human life and learns what it means to be free—to live as she pleases. And she has friends, human and Pokemon alike, and a family too. All seems well.[break][break]
But people tell her that she is different, that something about her has changed. Her vessel’s parents seem unhappy with her decision to run off to Lyeant so suddenly when she has such a beautiful home and a promising mate back in Kalos. They call and they beg for her return, but she tells them that that is not what she wants—the real her, not the it that now calls itself her. Such thoughts are difficult to convey, however, without revealing too much and so she ignores them and goes on with her life—their life. Because she lives for two now and for some reason, she can bring herself to lose the other.[break][break]
And each day, it becomes harder to tell, which her is the real her.
