To most people, Gen looks grumpy. He always has this look on his face that most interpret as grumpiness or disinterest, but that's just what his resting face looks like. If you actually step up and talk to him, you'll get at least a grin from him. Usually. Gen doesn't try to be mean by any means, in fact he hates to be mean. But when things get real, he'll tell it to you straight and not sugar-coat a single word. His bluntness often puts a lot of people off. After all, not many like to hear the truth, especially about themselves. However, those who accept the red-head's attitude will gain an invaluable friend. Gen looks out for his friends to no end and would do anything for them, they're practically family to him. His Pokemon are included in this as well. He loves his Pokemon like he would his children, if he had any. It's safe to say that his bird Pokemon live a very nice life. Being a gym leader, one could expect that Gen loves to battle. In fact, he looks forward to every chance that he gets to battle. These days it isn't so simple, but back before the meltdown of the region Gen waited impatiently for trainers to arrive at his gym to challenge him. It's one of the few times you could see him truly excited. Gen has a very soft side, in which only two things will make it come out: Pokemon and children. He can often be seen running around playing with the village children and Pokemon on his days off, and he helps families in need as often as he can. Gen may say that it's his "duty as a gym leader", but it's really out of the kindness of his heart. Now, as much as he likes kids, you'd think Gen would be quite the lady-killer. On the contrary, he's very awkward around girls. He doesn't know what to say or how to act around them, and ends up getting very flustered and red-faced. But he's handsome and pretty cool, so perhaps someday he'll find love! [break][break][break]

APPEARANCE

The first thing that most people notice about Gen is his long red hair. Although it's always pulled back, it's very hard to miss. Catching Gen with his hair down is like seeing a totally different person, and he will more than likely get very embarrassed about it. And although you won't be able to get him to tell you so, his hair is very soft. It is also very easy to lose control of his hair, and he will get bad hair-days from time to time. The second most thing that people notice about him are his tattoos. These tattoos are wrapped around his head, shoulders, torso, and the entire rest of his body. He has yet to tell anyone why he got them and what they mean, but all he will say is that they're very important to him. Even if you ask him about them, he won't tell you anything, so it's best to sit back and make your own assumptions I suppose. Gen is tall and pretty muscular, and works out as often as he can. The efforts of his self-training pay off, and he can often be seen helping women around the village carry heavy things back to their homes for them.[break][break]

Gen's clothing choice is usually somewhat simple, with dark-colored jeans and various different short-sleeved shirts. He'd much rather prefer long-sleeved shirts, but it gets quite hot in his desert hometown. Seeing Gen with a sleeveless shirt is very rare, but seeing him completely shirtless is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Occasionally he will wear shorts if it's much hotter than normal. Since Gen is pretty muscular, he might catch a few ladies' eyes on a hot day if he's wearing something to keep him cool![break][break]

HISTORY

Genkei Takehiro was born to a younger couple who were having a hard time finding a steady income. When their baby was only a month old, Gen's father got offered a very well-paying job in the Sinnoh region. The problem was, they had to move there for him to accept it. The even bigger problem? They would not be able to take Gen with them. Gen's father discussed with his parents (Gen's grandparents) about the situation, and they decided that it would be alright if Gen were to live with his grandparents. They were more than happy to take care of the baby if it meant their son would be able to take a job he had been wanting (and needing) for a long time. With heavy hearts, Gen's parents kissed him on the forehead one last time before heading off to catch their boat to Sinnoh. Because of their absence, Gen's parents were never able to see his first steps, hear his first words, and many other firsts' that parents looked forward to. His grandparents constantly sent pictures to his parents, but it still couldn't replace the fact that they weren't there.[break][break]

Gen's fascination in bird Pokemon started from when he was very young. He would often stare out the windows and watch the bird Pokemon fly in the sky. He would tell his grandmother how much he wished he could fly up in the sky like they could. Being raised by his grandparents, (who were very firm on rules and behavior) Gen grew up very well and learned all of his proper manners. According to his grandmother, Gen was the type of child that every parent wished they had. He was very respectful and always listened well to adults. Of course when he was out playing with friends, Gen didn't really have to mind his manners and could let loose and be himself. As soon as he began learning to write, Gen would write letters to his parents and would always get a response from them. Even though he had never met them, his grandparents would always tell him about them and make sure to convey to him that even though they weren't here with them, they loved him very much. And in return, Gen loved them. A week after Gen's 10th birthday a brown and gray Pokemon egg arrived in the mail, a late birthday present from his parents. They didn't want to tell him what Pokemon it was, but they promised him that if he took good care of it that it would hatch into something wonderful. He did as he was instructed, and after quite some time it hatched into one of his favorite Pokemon: a Starly. Gen had seen them in books but never once in person, seeing as how they were very common in Sinnoh. He named the female bird Pokemon Ayumi, and the boy and his new Pokemon soon grew inseparable. Gen began to train Ayumi and she soon grew strong. By the time Gen was 16, he had started a small team of bird Pokemon and was working on training them up into an amazing team. But then one day, out of the blue, something he hadn't expected to happen happened. His parents returned home. He had returned home late in the afternoon after a day of training his team to see them sitting on the couch with his grandparents. He knew right away who they were, after all he had seen pictures of them all of his life. They were a little older-looking than in the pictures he had seen, which was to be expected, but they were still his parents and they were still there. He was nervous around them for a few days, not really sure how to act around them and what to say. His parents, however, immediately smothered him in love, trying their best to make up for the 16 years of his life that they were absent from. They were very impressed to see how strong of a Pokemon trainer he had become, and supported him every step of the way as he trained up his team. Once he was able to, Gen applied for the position of Aria Village's gym leader. The previous gym leader had grown rather old and decided that it was time to retire and live the good life of retirement. Gen had learned a lot from him growing up, and had inspired the boy to become the next Aria Village gym leader. After a week's wait, he received notice that he had been accepted as the gym leader. After hearing the amazing news, Gen's parents and grandparents threw a huge party in celebration. It was one of the happiest moments of his life.[break][break]

Gen had been a gym leader all through Team Imum's highest moments, and was there alongside his fellow gym leaders when they finally brought the team down. The man had hated the team and what they stood for, and was happy to finally stamp out what was left of them. But they had certainly left a huge scar on the region. With preparations of the region underway and two groups who were seeking out blood from each other: one who wished to protect the region from further disaster but not care about the destruction of natural Pokemon habitat, and one who wants things back to how they were before the region grew so large and limited Pokemon to where they could live. It was only natural that Gen stay out of their arguments and stick with the Pokemon Association, after all he is a gym leader. But with people putting the blame on the association for not protecting the region when it needed it most, its been hard. Gen has decided for now to sit back and wait to see how things unfold; you never know when things can take a drastic turn, and for the worst.
