01. You are, your brothers taunt and sneer and tease, defective from the very start.[break][break]
02. Your blood boils hot with the anger of generations passed, human hands trying to pull themselves up from the filth and giving in to become worse than the lot of it. Drugs, alcohol, violence. A stranger walks down this alley your predecessors have owned before you, and you beat him within an inch of his life. It's just how it's always gone – it's how it will be until the day they tear this nightmare of a place down.[break][break]
03. It's easy to play along: whistle at the girls wearing clothing any less modest than a nun's habit, sling slurs and insults at the men who pass by. It doesn't matter if they're bulkier than you. You have the numbers, you have the switch blades and brass knuckles to leave them crying for mother on the concrete.[break][break]
04. But do you? 'You', the unit, certainly. 'You', the individual – hardly. It's so easy to say terrible, horrible things, to threaten to carve a nameless denizen's stomachs out for stepping on your brother's toes, but when it comes to a fight, you are the only one who doesn't land a blow. For years, you think the cacophony and the energy of the crossfire is enough of a distraction to cover up the way you turn tail and flee to the shadows. Surely, they are too lost in the heat of combat to notice that one little brother has excused himself from the unnecessary violence today (and yesterday, and the day before that still). What's one more or less person going to do, anyway?[break][break]
05. They notice, of course. Immediately. But it had only been a matter of time.[break][break]
06. It becomes a focal point of your childhood, then, the way their vile words all come turning around to land on you. What good is a gang member who's afraid to throw a punch? Worse, still, one who simply can't? This goes on for some time before one day you snap (your fingers, balled into a fist, colliding with Eric's face, blood splattering everywhere, nose broken with the impact; its different when it's someone you know, someone who has it coming), but impossible, the jeers only twist, metamorphosize, spat from lips who only know how to vomit acid and spray all in their wake. Useless – useless – useless – [break][break]
07. Your mother is a skeleton of a woman, hollowed out to her bones, soul-sucked and raw. She sits in her chair, remote in one hand and bottle in the other, and doesn't look at you, product of reckless abandon, unprotected passion. Why would she?[break][break]
08. When she sleeps, however, you steal from her the television and use it to see a world you will never experience from the pits of your vengeful poverty.[break][break]
09. The Legendary Defender Ryoto becomes your lifeline. Though your lip may split and splatter blood, though your bones may break against concrete, though your skin may flower violet and indigo, you can always dream of being a little bit more like him.[break][break]
10. It's easier to conform than resist, you learn with time. You rob a boy your age blind at the age of fifteen, and try to swallow down the bile that rises in your throat. He's not the first.[break][break]
He's most certainly not the last.[break][break]
11. Things escalate, as they do. Your family is picked off one-by-one before your very eyes; to steel, to a Pokemon's jaw, to the iron fist of the law. Idly, you wonder when it is your turn. The convictions with which you do crime are weak, but the crimes you commit all the same are very, very real. Surely, you are deserving of cuffs and bars and a lifetime of rot. You don't even think you'd struggle if they came for you.[break][break]
12. They don't. Or – if they were – they don't come fast enough.[break][break]
13. It's vengeance: you brothers stole his sister's innocence, her life, and someone must be made to pay. Had you the capacity in that moment for anything other than raw fear, you may have sympathized, perhaps even laid down your life, if it would make him feel any better. Instead, you panic at the sight of the gun in his hands – even your family aren't so deprived as you wave those around – and your body finds itself moving on autopilot.[break][break]
When it's kill or be killed, you don't even have to think.[break][break]
14. You have taunted. You have punched, and kicked, and broken. You have never killed.[break][break]
15. (The sight of the corpse has you dry heaving in an alleyway, and had it not been for your brother's insistent tug on your arm, you may have laid there until the police finally, finally took you away.)[break][break]
16. They laud you a hero – he's good for something after all! – but the nausea and the panic does not subside, even as the hour hand of the clock rotates a full forty-eight hours. The higher the praise, the more angry you become, grinding your teeth and digging your nails into your palm so hard it bleeds. These people, this “family” of yours understands nothing. Nothing of how you feel. Nothing of the world around them. They only know how to hate, hate, hate – and you'll be a part of it no longer.[break][break]
You flee, then, a runner in the night. Change your clothes, change your name, change your hair, friends, city, home. You forget what they called you, who you were, but his blood on your hands haunts you through the night.[break][break]
What does it take to atone?[break][break]
17. You wander the region, never staying in one place too long, avoiding your home as if it were the breeding ground of some great, terrible plague. To idle is to get caught; to settle is to have some semblance of order. You haven't done or learned a thing, not yet. You don't deserve a single shred of normality.[break][break]
18. If your life came at the cost of another's, you decide, you will simply have to live enough for the both of you.[break][break]
19. The irony is not lost on you: Ryoto, the name you have stolen for yourself, and Ryoko, the woman who holds the honor of worming her way into your life first. What is it she sees in your hollow eyes? It must be something great – or perhaps she's simply the sort to project what she wants to see onto the hopeless cases around her.[break][break]
Outwardly, you want solitude, peace. There are things you must do, and you cannot with her buzzing around your head like a bee.[break][break]
Inwardly, you are grateful. You've been losing your mind, yourself but by bit to the insulation, isolation, inconsolable. She opens your eyes to the world around you, slowly, and maybe, just maybe, you loved her from the very beginning for it.[break][break]
“We're going to aim high, Ryoto! We're going to be members of the Elite Four!”[break][break]
20. It's so silly, stupid, impossible.[break][break]
(Nothing, you learn, is impossible in the face of Ryoko Pyrragon.)[break][break]
21. Against all odds, you both take your place among the strongest trainers in Lyeant. Your master, the woman you had trained under to get there, Masuyo, is there as well. Fortune smiles on you more in your adulthood, it seems, than in your youth.[break][break]
To celebrate your shared victory, you kneel down on one knee and swear your life to the woman who saved yours. Who is more happy in the moment, you wonder? Her, being asked to be wed? Or you, being told: yes, yes, of course, I'll love you for the rest of our days?[break][break]
22. Together, you welcome Ryuuna into the world: a fighter from the very start, with hair as blue as your own and hands curled into fists that could shake the region to its bedrock. You have taken a life out of this world – and now, you have brought a new one into it.[break][break]
23. The years seem to fly in the days that your daughter grows from a fragile little infant to a girl with all of Ho-oh's fires in her eyes. Challengers come and go – the last position of the Elite Four is filled by a woman nearly twenty years younger than you, but you welcome her into your surrogate family with open, welcoming arms – and trials and tribulations unthinkable pass the four of you by. It's a whirlwind of an existence, one that leaves you[break][break]
tired.[break][break]
24. The four of you, together in everything, inseparable, resign almost simultaneously. The Association chairmen gawk, and you laugh; but your bones ache with weariness, and you know it is time to pass on the baton once and for all. You'll get your kicks tutoring trainers in the meantime, your wife's hands busy with the daycare she's always dreamt of running. You'll support your daughter in her dreams of overcoming the champion and taking up your title; she'll be a better trainer than you could ever hope to be, you know.[break][break]
Onward, then: toward the future.[break][break]
25. You don't think about your childhood much anymore.
01. You are, your brothers taunt and sneer and tease, defective from the very start.[break][break]

The Dragon Prince: former gang member, former dragon-type Elite Four specialist, current husband, current father, current Draco Meteor move tutor, and full time hunk. ... Well, alright, maybe not that last part. Ryoto held his position as Elite Four for quite some time, having joined at similar times to his very close friends Ryoko and Masuyo, and leaving simultaneously with the two and their other close friend Elise. He was notorious for his strength in battle and love of friendly conflict, and while he spends his days in early retirement, his love of trainers has led him to invite willing learners into his home to learn the most powerful dragon-type move of all. He loves his wife and daughter more than anything in the world, but his heart's big enough to leave room for plenty more.
[break][break]
Age is very much just a number to Ryoto when it comes to friendship. In his immediate group of closest friends and allies, in fact, are people nearly his same age, people nearly twice his age, and people nearly half his age. His warm heart is his strongest aspect, many will attest, and have attracted people since his crowning as the Elite Four's "prince" many years ago. Perhaps the only criteria for going from friendly to just pure friend is a love of battle; inevitably, if you plan to spend time with him, he'll challenge you to many. ... Many.[break][break]
This is... actually near impossible, so good luck finding yourself here. Honesty dictates that he's... off put by gang activity and their members, as well as organized crime syndicates like Imum or the mafia, but more than that, he has a hard time having it in himself to hold anything against them. He was at one time, after all, a member of a gang himself; if he had it in him to change his ways for the better, why should he believe that others in his prior position can't? His short-term fuse can be a bit short, of course, but holding things against people long term for him is easier said than done. Really, if you try to land a spot here, you'd have to, like... kidnap his family and friends and torture them for a couple years or something. But good luck doing this. (Also, if you're a twenty-something-year-old man and you're trying to hit on his daughter, you might land here, but for totally different reasons. You know how it goes.)[break][break]
He's taken, guys, sorry. Although, he's always willing to gush about how much he loves his wife to any willing ear. (He's not terribly bad looking, though, so it'd be perfectly reasonable for someone to one-sided crush on him, wink wonk. ;o Bonus because he's a taken man, mwahaha.)[break][break]
I'd love to get him involved with the current generation of Elite Four members, but honestly, his main thing right now is tutoring the youngin's about the secret of dragon-type Pokemon. Students are treated like family. Actually, if we're being totally honest here, he just wants to invite as many people as he can into the surrogate family on top of his existing family. He knows how it feels to be unloved by family, and he also doesn't want? Anyone else??? To feel that way????? Just come over here and let dragon dad adopt you, okay, it's for the better -
