Mary was in some sort of hysteria at this point. Why? Well, probably because she just to happened to lose sight of her son. She had been almost certain she had a grip on the boy, but when he suddenly had run off into the crowd of people and left her behind, unable to figure out where he went, she was having a heart attack and a half. She was going around to various people, but nobody had seen her. As she kept asking, her level of panic kept rising. What if something had happened to him? What if someone kidnapped him? Mary was beyond worried and she needed to find her son.
Suddenly she took one last ditch effort, running up to a stranger. "Please! Please help me find my son! I lost him in the crowd when he ran off without me... I'm begging you, help me! I'll do anything you ask, just please help me find my son!" She begged the stranger, at that point just on the verge of breaking down. Mary couldn't lose him, not after losing the man she loved. There was no way she could lose another person who was so dear and important to her again! She needed to find her son even if it meant sacrificing everything she had to whoever could help relocate him.
