>> TERRA NOSTRA
LYEANT'S MOST POWERFUL MAFIA
[attr="class","taketwogenmid"]
[attr="class","taketwogenmid2"]
Five generations of Nickoloses have come and gone, and with them have passed years of terror in nearly every life they touched. The Terra Nostra was born of their greedy and criminal ways, thrived on smuggling, protection, and blackmail, and have been a quiet stain on Lyeant's reputation that not even Imum's cleansing fire could purge. While time has moved the mafia away from leadership of lineage – near anyone of use may be a member, whether it be by blood, but choice, or by force – they stand no less powerful than they did fifty years ago. If only they were as easy to weed out as the aforementioned Imum; until that day, they will continue to make their profit off the fear of those around them.[break][break]
What makes them so tricky, perhaps, are their well-kept secrets. No one outside of the business could tell a member from another ordinary person, and those who have the knowledge fear more what will happen to them if they let it go than if they keep their mouths shut. Even the imprisoned know better than to spill to the police. Crimes committed against a member are expected to be paid back tenfold by the victim; those who are incarcerated are abandoned and expected to go down alone. Family means more than friendships, but silence means more than either still. No greater a crime is there in the eyes of the Terra Nostra than running the mouth. The only thing that may come close is desertion – although no one's lived to tell the tale of their own yet.

RANKS
[attr="class","taketwogenmid3"]
CAPOFAMIGLIA[break]
Often called the “Don”, the Capofamiglia sits high and mighty above the Terra Nostra as its single most powerful member. Virtually every order in the family comes from or as some sort of variant of what's given from the Don. Their word is as good as law, so far as their members are concerned, and failure to comply with any command will grant someone a speedy death at best. One of the few positions that still relies on lineage for successors; only blood relatives of the current and past Capofamilgia will end up here later down the line. [break][break]
SOTTOCAPO[break]
The second in command, sitting beneath the Don and acting as their voice. Orders passed down to the Capodecina rarely come directly from the Capofamilgia's mouth, instead behind messenger through the Sottocapo. In general, the Sottocapo is seen to be more active in affairs – even going so far as to step up to the Capofamiglia's position in the instance that the latter is not able to preform their duties – and is highly trusted by their only superior in the hierarchy. When problems arise, members go to the underboss, and from there, the underboss keeps the boss updated about all affairs of the mafia.[break][break]
CONSIGLIORI reserved[break]
While no longer an active participant in the general affairs of the Terra Nostra, the Consigliori was originally a prolific member of the group and has earned their spot in age as the Capofamiglia's adviser. There is but one person in the entire mafia who can get away with challenging the don's word – in this case, in fact, they're actually encouraged to do just that – and the responsibility falls on this veteran's head. Their expertise keeps the boss in check, and their advice is highly respected. In meetings, it's not unheard of for the Consigliori to sit in in the place of the don, whether it be to keep bullets out of the boss' head, keep the boss from making a fool of themselves, or some combination of the two.[break][break]
CAPODECINA[break]
Or just “capo”, as they're usually called. These members pass orders along from the Sottocapo to the soldato they have often hand-picked and command, as well as report to the higher ups. Each capo oversees a specific racket, and the soldato they give orders to preform only within that racket. [break][break]
SOLDATO[break]
The most populace group of the Terra Nostra, as well as the most active when it comes to the dirty work. Each soldato works beneath one Capodecina, and their capo's specialty becomes their own. Because of the differences between rackets, not every soldato's work will be the same.

RACKETS
[attr="class","taketwogenmid3"]
INFORMATION[break]
The eyes and ears of the Terra Nostra. While the higher ups may update and inform, the bulk of the information passed between members originates from the soldato in this racket. Sharps as knives, silver-tongued, and highly skilled at gathering and hoarding info of just about any kind, they keep the mafia up to date on affairs of the city. Soldato in this racket are also the most adept at blackmail, and if they aren't gaining information, they're using it against some poor, helpless soul.[break][break]
TRAFFICKING[break]
Illegal goods have to originate somewhere, and while the Terra Nostra rarely grows its own drugs or breeds its own Pokemon, its usually up to its members that fall in this racket to get the goods into the hands of the family. Whether it be guns, drugs, imports, Pokemon, or the gijinka slave trade, they gather them up, keep them recorded, and send them off to be distributed to the buyers of the region. Most who fall in this racket, aside from its capo, are even more specialized, trafficking only one specific good.[break][break]
DISTRIBUTION[break]
Once those aforementioned goods are out of the hands of the traffickers, they're placed in the hands of those in charge of distribution. Tasked with running stores owned by the Terra Nostra, they preform the duties one would expect: distribution of illegal goods. Most stores are a front, of course, with their real purpose only known in the underbelly of the city. While their job may seem the least high-risk in some senses, the percentage chance of them being caught by the law is much higher than virtually any other racket.[break][break]
PIZZO COLLECTION[break]
The infamous “protection money” is claimed by soldato in this racket, paid by businesses forced to pay up for the “protection” of the mafia. While money is the major focus here, it's not unheard of for other goods or services to be exchanged, and therefor collected by these members. While not strictly a rule, the nature of the work here results in a larger ratio of collection soldato taking to thuggish activity, bullying those who cannot pay in full... assuming they're not doing worse, like setting flame to establishments or putting guns to heads.[break][break]
HITMEN[break]
What it says on the tin. In the instance that the target is a little more than an uncooperative small business owner, highly trained soldato proficient in the art of murder are sent to finish the job. Targets often include uncooperative associates of a higher profile or potential rivals who could stand to put up more of a fight than the collection racket could handle. Because of the smaller pool of targets here, the aassassin racket is particularly small, especially when placed beside virtually any of the others.[break][break]
CLEANUP[break]
While their job description specifies the cleanup of murder scenes, soldato in this racket are often thought of as miracle men and women who could clear up the scene of just about anything, and not just murder. If something has gone terribly awry in any branch or form of the Terra Nostra, the cleanup crew can be expected to erase all tracks of it in a small amount of time, effectively keeping other members out of the eyes of the law.

LAWS TO ABIDE BY
[attr="class","taketwogenmid2"]
Silence, above all else. Even with a gun pressed to your head, the identities and activities of the Terra Nostra must be kept secret at all cost, even if it's your life.[break][break]
Under no circumstances may relations be had with a member of the force. Cops should not be spoken with, even for the sake of information extraction, nor should testimonies of any kind for any crime be given. False answers, too, will not be permitted.[break][break]
When questioned by a higher up of the Terra Nostra, the truth must always be given in its entirety. Dishonesty outright is on equal terms as dishonesty through omission or expectation.[break][break]
Mafioso must never introduce themselves to another mafioso if they are someone they do not personally know, even if their reputation precedes them. Introductions may be made between a third member, should they know both parties themselves, but otherwise should not be made.[break][break]
Appointments must be respected and met in all instances.[break][break]
One must be readily available for the family at all times, regardless of what personal affairs may be happening otherwise.[break][break]
Money should only appropriated if it belongs to the person appropriating it. Appropriating money that does not belong to you is not allowed.[break][break]
Those with close ties to the police through family or close friends, those with relatives known to back stab and two-time, and those with no apparent moral compass are not permitted to enter the Terra Nostra.
