A native of Slateport City in Hoen, Ioanna was raised primarily in the more makeshift areas away from the premier coastal housing, and the city's more inland neighborhoods. Ironically the nominal cause for her living arrangments stemming from her gjinka nature, made it so that she found her earlier environments nigh uninhabitable due to the conflict in instincts spawned by the semi-aquatic nature of her surroundings. That all abruptly changed however shortly after receiving a Mudkip for her first pokemon, a sudden and violent storm swept over the shores of the port settlement one day. While fortunate enough to have been inland enough to be spared the worse of the flooding, Ioanna found herself regretting using her partial fire type physiology for avoiding learning to swim. Albeit with great difficulty, Ioana was able to to find shelter with Tahoe's assistance and wait out the disaster. [break][break]

Rushing back towards her home, the child was quick to discover however fortune was not universal. Though in the back of her mind there were nagging concerns about the well being of her family, she clung to the child naivety that her home and family had been spared the destructive force of might that caused the devastation that sprawled around her. The illusion lasted only the minutes it took her to reach the rubble that had been her home. Collapsing upon fully taking in the scene, Ioanna wasn't sure how long it was before an aunt retrieved her. Staying with the aunt for a few days, there was a degree of debate over what was to happen now while coping with her mother's death she awaited her father's return. His employment as captain of a merchant's vessel meant that while he was spared the disaster of the storm, he was still several days away. For the duration of her wait, Ioanna slowly began to come to terms with what had occurred. Deciding to attempt to cling to what little she had left, a tedious process of overcoming her issues with the sea. [break][break]

It took much debate and convincing, but eventually, Ioanna was able to talk her way into a trail run on her father's next outing at sea. From there the water she had once despised, ultimately became one of the more consistent loves of her life. Though she knew full well to respect the dangers also posed by the unstable currents, Ioanna came into herself in the following years. Traveling from region to region, she learned to interact with a variety of individuals from all walks of life. Though serious and professional on boats or at seas, Ioanna couldn't help but partake in luxuries on shore. Socializing in various forms, partaking in Pokemon events, and the like. Though she was never in one place for long enough to explore any long-term participation in Leagues, Ioanna found herself enjoying the various aspects of being a trainer she got to experience. For a time things appeared to be going well, from a shaky start Ioanna found herself at ease in the life of sailing. Her father may not have fully like her picking up the colorful tongues of the rest of the crew, or joining in catcalling; she paid little to no head to any signs of a coming storm of an entirely different nature. The outbreak of the Inum crisis came suddenly, and Ioanna found herself helping serve aboard vessels taking refugees to the handful of safe cities. With great difficulty, Ioanna had managed to convince her now elderly father to stay while she took over the ship. While it was ultimately lost on a final voyage, she was among survivors fished from the ocean and brought to safety. At first, going stir crazy from losing her sea legs, Ioanna eventually found a new purpose, and through further labor, she got the position of Gym Leader. Able to purchase a new ship, Ioanna is limited in local voyages now, but found the revitalization of her father upon seeing the small ship to be worth it. With further conflicts brewing on the horizon, Ioanna has taken note this time and is considering her options. Determined to do more than help people merely weather the storm.[break][break]

A friendly individual, Ioanna is easy to get along with. As a gym leader she takes the position and its responsibilities with the utmost seriousness. Her passion of the seas endures through everything, and while not a total party person, she isn't married to work. A temperament that can be unleashed with the fury of the sea, she has a vocabulary that could cause even seasoned sailors to blush when frustrated.

Aboard her father's vessel Ioanna has learned how to interact with peoples of all walks of life, and is a fairly easy going to interact with. Though she no longer sets sail for locations far away, Ioanna enjoys being able to take to the sea. Professionally she is willing and eager to accept all challenges.

As someone who is generally easy going, and posses the resolve to limit contact with those that have a tendency to generate tension. Ioanna is more likely to have rivalries then long-lasting enemies. But the occasional few that have reached that point are generally those who are overtly rude or aggressive towards others. Not overtly temperamental she is more likely to actively avoid then resort to violence in most cases. She's also developed a tendency to unleash her sailor's mouth when thoroughly frustrated.

Harmless flirting is something Ioanna engages in or returns easily enough, occasionally a persistent enough individual can get a date or two. More focused on the professional side of life than some would give her credit for, long-term romances are not really on her mind. Those she is already friends with or have similarly close relationships may have a better shot at it.
