[attr="class","goldenlyrics"]CAN I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION? ARE YOU HEARING ME NOW?
[attr="class","goldenpost"]
It was of no question that Gold liked attention. Even from his youth, he'd been the sort to try to hog the spotlight, pushing other children aside, shouting out his accomplishments for all to hear, making it very well known that while most of his peers were fortunate to have one Pokemon to play with, his household had more than he could count on both of his hands combined. A small army of siblings traded in for a father, maybe; at the time, he only thought of it as something that put him ahead of the rest. Media spotlight, the lingering eyes of a woman, the hero worship that came with being one of the “saviors of Kanto and Johto”: he lapped it up, every second of it, and spat it all back out twofold with all the force of an ego maniac. Even the attention of a villain was something he'd gladly take. At least then, he had someone to beat down and put his skills to use on. The bonus was that he could brag about that, too, once all of the smoke had dissipated and the dust had settled back to the ground. Contrary to popular belief, however, there were certain types that even a limelight addict like himself couldn't stand to find himself under the scrutiny of. One was anything that called his honesty into question – really, the people at the Game Corner didn't know how to take a joke! that's all it was, not cheating – and the other went a little something like this:
Any day that the Hatcher could pull Crystal out of her work space and into the world of the living was a fortunate one, albeit one filled with deal-making and what he would refuse to admit was begging later on. Despite the rumors of all sorts of prominent faces from other regions showing up in Lyeant to help in the reconstruction efforts (apparently there were even some guys from that quiet Orre region off to the West), he'd yet to actually bump into anyone he knew, save for the woman in question, and even then, they'd run into each other before Imum had actually moved to strike down its mighty hammer. Now, he'd never claim to be starved for friends. That conflicted with his confident aura, his everything's-always-great-because-I'm-great attitude. But the truth of the matter was: Okay, yeah, he was definitely friend starved, and some days, if he didn't drag his only current friend in Lyeant out to do crazy stunts with him, he was pretty darn sure he was going to lose his Arceus darned mind. She'd caved today, thankfully, at the offer of grabbing a bite to eat at one of Veherna's more... unique eateries, and while the food had ultimately left something to be desired, she still must have been in an okay mood, because she'd only kicked him in the shin once so far for blurting out something before running it through his severely underused brain filter. An onlooker may have thought one to be too high of a number itself, but he was pretty sure gravity in the Distortion World would straighten itself right up before Crystal ever really let him get away with his antics scott free.
They were home free, then – or, rather, they should have been, and were, right up until a nameless face standing outside an impressive looking building swooped in for the kill, standing in their path and flashing a plastic smile their way.
“Oh, what a lovely couple you two make!” Couple? For real? Gold would have barked out a laugh had the stranger not been quicker. “In fact, you're the loveliest of the ones that have passed by today, and you're the lucky number ten! We're looking for couples just like you – why, exactly ten, what a coincidence! – to participate in our show today. You'll participate, won't you?”
Ha. Fat chance of that. He opened his mouth to tell her just that, “Look here -” but if there'd been any doubt that his words were intentionally being swallowed up, they were washed away the moment his defiance was cut short. “I can see it in your eyes, though. You don't need to tell me! We look forward to having you on set!” And like that, the stranger was reaching out for Crystal, intending to drag her (maybe even kicking and screaming) into that aforementioned impressive looking building behind her. “Hey, we haven't agreed to anything!”
