Lane's a Marine Biologist that's believed to have died in a suicide mission for the Aqua Gang. Articuno took over Laney's body as an act of mercy, and now Articuno is here and honestly just trying to understand the current sitewide situation and survive. Laney? Kinda there. Laney's out of touch with her friends. This kind of workaholic with no patience or time for drama has a hard time keeping friends, assuming she can make them. Articuno taking over their body makes it harder to connect via technology, since the bird finds such methods of communication trivial at best.[break][break]
Despite that, Articuno is eager for camaraderie and strength in numbers. Friends they can trust are sorely desired, but difficult to come by. This legend will definitely be acting as Lane, though over time, the bird will find themselves growing into Lane's personality. Kinda hoping for fellow researchers/coworkers to have antics with the bird. Also having characters teach them new things/be a bad influence would be great. It'd also be nice to have Lane learn to be friends with someone with drastically different beliefs because that would piss them off so much and honestly Lane is super immature when it comes to things like that.

my first thought is: moltres + zapdos my birb is super uncomfortable around you bc of manga canon. they could tolerate them in the manga but the region's recent destruction brought all sorts of bad memories and Articuno is not going to become some rogue science experiment again. [break][break]
Also Lane is terrible with people with conflicting views, and that intense disgust/defensiveness carries over today. I'm pretty sure most political discussions could easily turn into a heated argument. They're also not good with super huggy/clingy characters so tentative friendship can easily turn into discomfort + avoidance if that isn't addressed.

I gotta admit, this has the potential to be absolutely heart breaking. If Lane feels some kinda attraction to another person, is it genuine or is it Articuno's feelings? How would it even work between other legendaries? Would they experience romance in the same way as people? I'm very open to Lane having one-sided affections for another character, with Articuno butting in and going 'pls they're like a thousand years too young calm down'.
IDK how much of that makes sense. but lane-articuno have that internal dissonance going on and the two blur together.

True to the scientific method, we have a character that's willing to fairly explore phenomena as long as it meets a certain criteria. Proud of their accomplishments, but still desires challenges. Engaging enough to chat up the next stranger, but unlikable enough to keep from having many friends.

Laney Delano, also known as Lane, age 31, passed away while pursuing fieldwork in the Seafoam Islands last month. Remembered for their accomplishments with the Mossdeep Sea Center and the rehabilitation of injured/abused Sharpedo, and taking measures to improve public relations between the public and the "Gangs of the Sea". Family and friends remember her as a devoted and charismatic spirit that's capable of achieving any dream she sets her sight on. Lane will be deeply missed.[break][break]
At least, that's how the papers would roll if Lane's physical form died along with them.
BLOCKED LIKE ICE
It started like it ended; exciting, jaw-dropping, and full of mystery. Lane's lesser known work was a consultant & researcher for Hoenn's notorious Aqua Gang. You could only make so much income by doing honest work, and sometimes, you needed the impact of a radical group to get things done. The one mission that ended it all left her in command of a headstrong and passionate leader in a cross-regional trip. All in pursuit of prestige, money, and knowledge. It was the kind of adventure someone could make a movie out of, which prompted Lane into accepting despite the threat of danger in uninhabitable territory. [break][break]
Lane wasn't the careful type, especially when things were calculated to go their way. The threat of death was too unreal to feel, even in the face of the legendary Articuno's steely stare. Articuno hadn't been their mission, but Lane couldn't pass the opportunity up. How much was myth and legend? What was the true power of the bird? They needed to know. It would've been the peak of their career, or at least a really cool story to tell at the parties they weren't invited to. [break][break]
It was a stray Blizzard attack that missed their own Pokemon, and instead blew Lane straight into the ravenous currents of the water below. Surviving something like that? You couldn't for long, given the bitter temperature of the chilled waters.
A NEW PERSPECTIVE
It hadn't intended such a dramatic demise for the fallen human, yet it had happened all the same. With a heated stare towards the other Aqua pests, it blocked one of the entrances to its cavern with a thick sheet of ice, preventing both its own capture, and the fallen human's rescue. Water continued to rush beneath the cliff behind it, and with a nervous shiver, the bird turned to check on the human's remains. If there was anything Articuno knew about humans, it was that they were painfully persistent. [break][break]
Sure enough, despite the odds, that damn human was clinging to a Sharpedo for dear life as they fought against the rough currents, starving for the relief of land. If the water didn't do them in, then surely the cold would. Despite its contempt for its intruder, it bestowed mercy upon the trainer's soul. "Give your life to me, and I'll ensure your survival." A silent promise was exchanged as Articuno flew above the near drowning trainer, and in the heat of the frantic tears and gasps for air, Lane threw out their hand for Articuno to take. And so, Articuno's soul inhabited its new human vessel.
AWAKENING
Lane's soul is weak, and essentially dormant. Now, Articuno has taken over with a vague recollection of Lane's memories. While Lane is too weak to observe and communicate, their personality still strikes through Articuno subconsciously. Lane used to wear glasses, but now, Articuno's power has dramatically improved their eyesight, erasing the need for glasses. Lane still has a habit of pushing up their glasses despite not wearing them. Articuno is capable of summoning snow and lowering the temperature in its new vassal, and feels an intense anxiousness when Moltres and Zapdos are near as a result of its trauma with Thu-Fi-Zer. Lane's natural body temperature has also changed to prefer the cold, while Hoenn's hot temperatures makes them sluggish and weak.
